Georgia
Georgia is not only known as a prolific grower of the Southern specialty grape, the muscadine, but numerous other varieties as well. In particular, the northern part of the state toward the North Carolina border is known as Georgia wine country.
This area is hilly, with numerous valleys providing warm days and cool nights. Over the last two decades, Georgia wine country has become a tourist destination and several of the wineries are praised as among the best in the south.
The Wine Growers Association of Georgia is a great source for more information about each of Georgia’s wineries.
There are now more than 30 wineries in Georgia, a significant increase over just a few years ago. In addition to the northern part of the state, wineries and vineyards have also sprung up in other sections as well.
