Kansas
Kansas is a highly agricultural state, but when most people think of Kansas, they don’t think of wine …
Before Prohibition, Kansas and Missouri were two of the most prolific states in terms of grape and wine production. State laws in Kansas didn’t loosen up until the mid 1980′s and since then, the state’s wine industry has begun a slow climb. Happily, there are now almost two dozen farm wineries in Kansas, mostly clustered in the central and northeastern part of the state.
Common grapes and wines produced in Kansas are Norton, Chambourcin, Seyval, and Vignoles, so there’s a good mix of red and white eminating from the state’s wineries.
There’s even a brand new wine trail, the Northeastern Kansas Wine Trail , an easy drive from Kansas City.
