Montana
In general, Montana has a short growing season. It typically begins in mid May and is over by mid October. It has been somewhat of a challenge to find growers willing to test grape growing in the past, but things are changing in Montana.
Traditional grape varieties like pinot gris and chardonnay are being grown here, along with a few others. Further, Montana produces a lot of berry fruit which also has made its way into local wine.
Currently, there are eight Montana wineries. Most of the wineries make their wine with grapes imported from other states, along with a few cultivated in Montana. Each of them uses Montana grown fruit, so you can get a real taste of the state by trying these types of wine.
The wine industry in Montana is in its infancy, but growing rapidly. Until recently, there were only a couple of wineries in the state.
